Drink Water and Wash Away Your Blues

Abusive levels of drinking creates an unhealthy lifestyle.  Drinking dehydrates your body, loads it with sugar, and you likely eat salty snacks to get nourishment (overloading your system with sodium which is dangerous at high levels). Yes two of the most dangerous elements when used to excess are sugar and salt.

So  probably one of the most important things to do to help yourself  is to drink water -- to sober up (dilute the alcohol and salt), rehydrate your tissues and flush your liver and other organs.

However you like your water best, make it as palatable as possible - use ice cubes, drink good tasting chilled spring water, even add a twist of lemon to it - and there are lots of flavored waters you can buy as well..

So either to maintain some semblance of health and especially if you are going to quit drinking, make a point of  drinking lots of healthy water.

Another thing over-drinking does is deplete your body of vitamins and minerals.  So if you want to mitigate the effects of drinking or better yet to quit drinking, take some vitamins on a regular basis.  Try to at least eat healthy food if you insist on drinking; ...and if you quit drinking, make eating well part of your rehab.

In extreme alcoholics there is a tendency to stop eating, especially if they foolishly think this will help them to limit calories, (to leave more room for high calorie alcoholic drinks) or if they are nauseated and/or have no appetite (which can be a symptom of an assaulted liver - in fact Hepatitis feels just like stomach flu).

In severe alcoholics you will often see a bloated look, especially the stomach and abdomen  - I am referring to that which is beyond but has its roots in the 'beer belly'.  This bloated condition is, in addition to being from the sugar and water retention from salt, from the liver and can indicate a serious disease is developing.

Check it out.  Liver damage is often permanent damage.  Once your liver is malfunctioning you will not be singing '1000 bottles of beer on the wall' and may instead be memorizing 'As I walk through the valley of death...'.  You can't live without your liver, Yo.

Drink Up!

Water that is...
